Modules

Modules are the things you can do with your website to enhance the fuctionality. Modules can add a whole range of useful features which would be unavailable in a standard sense. Interaction with a visitor or displaying a catalog are types of things that require a lot of server side stuff to make it work. This extra stuff comes in the form of modules.

The most common is the picture/text module (Standard Content). This is the foundation for almost every website. Being able to post a picture with some text, an optional file is also available. For many people this is the only modules that you really need. Almost every content management system, Wordpress, Concrete, Joomla etc.. will have a standard content module. What about those that want more?

Guestbook Module. Yes, Techweavers have a guestbook module. A lot of website editing systems allow you to have a guestbook, or they let you drag one in from a 3rd party source.

( Any guestbook module should be moderated. Moderated guestbook means that you get to review the guestbook entries before they are posted to your website.This is SUPER important because, the internet is the best and worst of humanity. People will abuse your guestbook. As we can see here there is a person who is spamming USA today links. This is likely some person who thinks backlinks a website still has some value. It doesn't, but they will abuse anything they can so they can lie to the people paying them. They will post advertising or worse to your guestbook. ) 

What would make a guestbook even better than just having people sign saying they were there? How about a PICTURE Guestbook? Rather than a visitor just leaving a "Love your site" or "I was here" it might be nice for them to be a little more personal and leave a picture of a pet, or a hobby or something to share and let you know it was them.

PDF Files Module. Now an ever increasing part of our lives PDF files are files we just cannot get away from. Crodd platform, MAC or PC being able to show off pictures, charts and text PDF files have become a useful way of making sure people don't mess with the files you send them.

Why would anyone need a PDF files module? You just upoad the file and you get a link to download the file. A long time ago, in the earlier days of the internet, a nice lady asked if we can just upload pdf files and have that be her website. At the time, it wasn't possible since it was still the early days of the internet. I thought about that a lot, clients being able to upload a pdf and lay it out as a webpage without any additional work on behalf of the client. I mean they went thorough all the effort of making the pdf in the first place. After a lot of thought and some effort Techweavers decided to build a module for people who love pdf files. Single page or even a catalog of pages can be laid out as a webpage just by uploading a pdf file.

As you can see even a 65 page comic book can be uploaded and viewed as a webpage. This particular cominc is an open source file gathered at https://archive.org/ (give credit where credit is due) PDF files can be a great resource and now they can also be something you can upload to display as a webpage.

Email Forms and Form Spam protection. Eveyone loves email forms (well not everyone). Email forms are super useful sometimes. They can be credit applications, or they can be short boxes to just let a website know you need a little help or have a comment about things. 

Complex email forms can really be a difficult if they aren't handled in a human friendly manner. Complex email forms are where you might not want a person to just give a brief note, but you would like to get their opinion on things, like a survey or you need details on a discussion. Sometimes you might like Check boxes instead of a line of text, or you might like a choice like red or blue. Even long forms can be super boring if they aren't broken up into catagories or have labels. Maybe you want the visitor to upload some information as a file as well. resumes or Identification checks.

There are a few email form services out there of on some platfoems you can plug in an email form for a price. Most of these form services are lacking in one respect or another. No file upload, or the captcha thingy is a seperate servce you have to subscribe to. You mentioned email Form Spam?

Today's email form has a few different parts. There is the form part, filled with questions and answers by the visitor. There is also the part after you collect the information. What to do with it? There are parts of the form we have to protect. We don't want a person who is super bored to fill in the form repeatedly, since that would be annoying. We might want the form to go to more than one person or we might want the visitor to choose who the form goes to; (Accounting, customer supprt or management). We might want sections whithin our form. We might also want to have columns of our questions instead of one long straight row and we want to slow down or stop the bots that are now all over email forms these days. That is a lot of wants for a simple email form.

You don't have to do anything, but if you would like to review the captured spam, you have that option. Mostly it will be in Russian, but you can look to see how many have been caught.
