Gmail blocking email

As of May 26 2023 We have seen a rise in Gmail bouncing valid messages with an invalid SPF record. No one should ever use a free mail service for their business email, but we cannot get around customers that are doing so. This means that everyone should have a valid SPF record for their email service. If you have asked us to create a domain verification for Google services or Outlook services, you may have to get your SPF record checked. This will be something each domain needs to look at.

There is no cost to you for us to look at and adjust your SPF record.

If you are forwarding your email to Gmail or Outlook.com you will begin to see your emails bounce back from these services. Even if the forwarded mail has a valid SPF record, The automation part of the forward may result in your email being flagged, or dropped altogether.

Again, no actual business should use a free email service for their email. Many of their servers are on blacklists and they will provide email to anyone.

SSL: Secure Socket Layer.

These days people are seeing a notice that the page they are viewing is either "secure" or not secure.
The "secure" page is noted by a small but distinctive lock in the browser bar. Without the lock the page is labeled as "Not secure." Not secure makes people think that there is something wrong with your site, where secure allows people to believe that their connection to the website is actually secure. If you believe that a picture of a lock actually makes you secure, you have larger issues with security.

Because people are actively looking for this lock and choosing a competitor when they do not see this lock we have added SSL certificates for all of the websites we manage. There is a nominal fee of 5$ per month for this certificate. Now some people will say that some certificates are "free". This is partially true, but the infrastructure to actually use these certificates is not free, and we have had to move all of our websites and the platform to a version of the operating system that can manage these certificates. In addition, these certificates need to be renewed every 3 months. This means more management time and costs.

If you have any questions, please contact our office and we would be happy to go over this aspect with you.

Domain Price Adjustment

Over the last few years the domain costs on the registrar side have been steadily increasing.  We have absorbed these costs so far and have tried to avoid passing them on to our customers.

Beginning November 1st, 2018 we will be adjusting our yearly domain costs to be more sustainable.  This means our costs will be increasing from $25 per year to $30 per year (Canadian).  As always, we will continue to manage these domains for you and do our best to keep costs manageable.

Website / Domain Reinstatement Charge

Running services on a month to month basis comes with some challenges, sometimes accounts fall behind, and in extreme circumstances become suspended.  If your services have lapsed and we have had to suspend your services a reinstatement charge of $35 will be applied to your account.  Accounts in arrears that have been suspended must be brought to current before we can reinstate services.
